Life is pretty easy here on Mackinac Island. My pet, Allie and the monster, I mean, dog, seem to have found yet another dead body. This time floating in the water. If I had been there, I would have watched from shore and then maybe tasted it to see if it was alive or dead. Allie jumped in to save the person, but realized they were dead once she got them to shore.
I would never jump into the water. I might bat a fish or two with my paw, but cats and water don't mix. Truthfully, I've never been on a boat. I was born on the island. I adopted Allie after my mom moved in with her new boyfriend. Things have been pretty good ever since. I get regular food, strokes from Allie and her friends Jenn and Frances. But with this recent body, Allie has been acting more upset. It seems her boyfriend Trent is being distant because his sister is a murder suspect. No matter what Allie does, Trent keeps pushing her away. Poor Allie is beside herself. It makes her daydream and makes my job of soliciting pets and strokes from her all the harder. At least Rex comes by whenever Allie finds a body. I like him. He has warm hands.

We have a cat who used to help with the pill container. She would sit and wait and if I dropped a pill, it was a race to see who got it first. I have another cat who knocks on the screen to be let in.

I don't have any pets now. I used to have a pair of Oscars that would lay on the bottom of their tank whenever someone they didn't know walked by. My Mom's friends were always telling her my fish were dead.

I live with 2 elderly Boxers. Not sure if anything they do is cute. They love squeaker toys. They have killed many toys in the past. I started getting them the toys which have no stuffing but still squeak, I thought I had overcome their ability to destroy. I was wrong. My Siberian Husky is 15 now but when he was younger, he would spin in circles when he got excited. Dinner time and going out for a walk he would spin like a top. Now he's got arthritis and doesn't spin like he use to.

A cute habit is when my tiny foster kitty jumps up and wraps her arms around my Mariusz, a cat about 3 times her size. They love each other and I decided today to be a foster failure. Little Annabella is joining the family. She'll have cat brothers Mariusz and Licorice along with cat sister Calumet and rat brothers and a horse brother too!

When my cat was younger she always loved to steal people food, especially angel food cake. One Thanksgiving she climbed up on the back of the couch and jumped over my Grandmas shoulder to snatch the cake right off her plate. It was as big as my cats head. When you scratch Tiny's (tabby cat) back he moves his head side to side like Stevie Wonder does when he plays the piano as he moves his mouth almost in a chattering type motion. ReplyDeleteMella and Mal - I love it! Can't wait to get to know you more, Mella! I have three cats all of whom have super cute habits. Carl, is 15 and our big guy, ever since arriving back home from a routine, but overdue vet appointment a couple of months has been sleeping with me nightly (between me and my nightstand). I say "sleep," but so far as I can tell he just lays up there purring half the night. I think it's his way of thanking me for not leaving him at that wretched place (the vet's). Then Lenny, also 15 and Carl's litter mate, yet half the size, always jumps up on the couch as soon as I sit down. He waits to get on my lap until he gives me a chance to grab a blanket. Unfortunately I don't necessarily get lots of couch time, but rest assured, when I sit down he knows! Then there's Jingles, our new 11 year old whom we just adopted from the shelter nine months ago. Her safe haven is in my hubby's home office, but whenever I notice she needs food or water she'll raise her chin up to the ceiling and open her mouth as if to meow in agreement that she is in desperate need of food (ha!), yet no sound emits. It is super cute! I really do think I've got the best cats around.

We had a faun boxer, Casey, who loved to play with marshmallows. We toss one to him, and for several minutes, he would bat it around like a soccer ball. He grabbed it in his mouth and toss it into the air. And no matter how much it rolled on the floor or on the ground, he still pop it into his mouth, and beg for more. He was a delight!

My dog, Taffy, likes Cheerios. After each meal, she demands to play a Cheerio game where I have to toss a Cheerio and she runs after it and eats it. If she doesn't get to play this game, she becomes sad and restless.

Nice post. Got a kick out of Mella's just bat at a fish a time or two. Reminded my of a few years ago was visiting with a friend. As we walked back into the living room we caught her cat batting at the fish in the aquarium. She snapped "Ivan!" The cat sat back and gave her a look that clearly said "Who? Me? I didn't do anything!" We both started laughing. She pointed to the floor and he jumped down pretty as you please. ReplyDeleteThe cats like to sit on the stove (can't stop them from doing that). One time Muffin snatched my burrito off my plate and another time he got to my Panini. He likes to play with my food when my back is turned. Brownie got to my chicken and dumplings that I had put into a bowl after opening the can. She started licking my food! Once the cats' toy squeaky mouse ended up in their water bowl. It took a while for the squeak to start working again. Brownie beheaded my wooden duck by knocking it off the top of the bookcase. This was quite a while ago and I still haven't glued it back together again.

Charlie runs halfway down the stairs each and every morning, and waits for you to walk up and pet him through the banister. Then, and only then, will he come all the way downstairs to start his day. :-)
