So, is everyone ready for Thanksgiving? Generally we close the Read ’Em and Eat café and bookstore for every holiday but this year we decided that we would love to show how thankful we are for our wonderful lives here on Fort Myers Beach, with gorgeous views no matter which way we look, and terrific friends to brighten the day should a cloud appear.
We decided to provide Thanksgiving Dinner for people who might have some trouble doing up the holiday on their own. We asked Pastor John for suggestions and he gave us a list of individuals and families to invite. Miss Augusta Maddox and her neighbor Blondie Quindlin hand wrote fancy invitations for us to snail mail and I am delighted to report that we will have a full house, er, café on Thanksgiving Day.
Miguel volunteered to cook the turkeys complete with stuffing and gravy. Bridgy is on vegetable duty. I cannot wait for a taste of her candied yams. Naturally Aunt Ophie is making her famous Buttermilk Pie, while I’m making my not-so-famous Pumpkin Pie.

And here is a note from our author: On Amazon the mass market paperback price of READ TO DEATH is reduced to $5.84, and WELL READ, THEN DEAD is reduced to $7.43. No reduction on CAUGHT READ-HANDED but I have never figured out how pricing is done so I am not surprised. I do recall that last year many of the sale prices disappeared around Thanksgiving so if you are inclined to buy books as gifts for the upcoming holidays this week may be the perfect time to do so.

ReplyMy favorite Thanksgiving food tradition is my mom's Jell-O mold. This is not an average Jell-O mold, or one of those scary ones from the 1970s, although we have been eating it since then...if not before.

I love my mother's cornbread dressing. Kind of funny since she is German and had to learn to even make cornbread when she first came here.
