What is This RT I've Been Hearing About?

by Aunt Bess, from SILENCE OF THE JAMS by Gayle Leeson

Well, Amy's friend Gayle just got back from something called RT. Amy says it's the Romantic Times Booklovers' Convention. From what I can gather, this RT is a thing where people eat a whole lot of rich food, drink, ogle sexy men, and talk about books. And I can tell you right now that I'm tee-totally disgusted!

Did anyone think to ask, "Aunt Bess, would you like to go to RT?" No, they did not. Did I hear, "Aunt Bess, you love reading! Maybe you'd like to attend this gigantic book fair!?" Nope. How about, "Aunt Bess, you love good food and sexy men. Want to ride down to Atlanta for the week?" If anybody said it, they whispered it ten miles away because I never heard it.

I don't want to make anybody feel bad or anything. I realize I'm not as young as I used to be, and I don't want to horn in on anybody's fun. But would I have really been in the way? There were thousands of people at this convention. What difference would one more little person have made?

Here are some of the cookies I didn't get to eat. They were made by Sweets by Steph out of Kansas. Amy told Gayle I was having a fit about these cookies--that Gayle just bragged and bragged on, by the way!--so she's giving me (and one of you) a gift certificate so that sweet Steph will make me some cookies of my own. In the meantime, I've put these on my Pinterest board Things I'd Love to Eat. I'll post my own cookies on there too, once I get them. And you know who I'm not giving one? Gayle, that's who.

Gayle got enough enjoyment out of her trip to Atlanta. Just look at this! There she stands between two gorgeous men looking happier than a mule eating briars! Had I been there, I could've had my picture made with all of those men too, and I'd have put the pictures on my Lord, Have Mercy! board. The Lord probably would've had to have mercy on my poor heart if I'd been hugged up to either one of those handsome men...but if I'd died, I'd have gone with a cookie in my hand and a grin on my face!

Dang, Aunt Bess, why don't you tell us what you REALLY think?! She is, however, right about the giveaway. One lucky reader will win a $20 gift certificate for Sweets by Steph toward some custom cookies of his/her own. You have until noon on Monday, May 15, to comment below with your favorite type of cookie. Please include your email address. Winner will be obtained by putting the total number of entries into a random number generator. Good luck!

  • Most any type of cookie for us. I per meal. It's called portion control. My kids are still used to that. But our All time faves are: Lavender Shortbread cookies, Snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, Mexican Wedding Cookies, sugar cookies, Cream Cheese cookies, Peanut Butter cookies. (Everyone wanted to make sure I mentioned their favorites. Back seat drivers can be a pain. Only one has a back seat drivers permit. [Just got informed I'm not funny. • My fav type of cookie is spritz cookies but the runner up one is choc chip. My husband claims he is not a cookie eater but he makes cookies for me as i am disabled and then i catch his hand in the cookie jar every night. I used to make cookies with my kids and girl scout troup all the time they loved to do it! [email protected]
