Well here we are—it is June and Fort Myers Beach is welcoming family vacationers with open arms. Temperatures are in the low 90s most days and the breeze from the Gulf of Mexico feels oh so good.
Now that the Lee County schools are out for the summer, the Teen Book Club members plan to meet every two weeks. Instead of arguing about what to read next or leaving the decision to me, the club members decided to each drop a folded paper with the name of a book into a paper bag and then I got to shake the bag and draw out the name of the first June book. Holes by Louis Sachar won both the Newbery and the National Book Award, so I was delighted it would be our first read. Since it was Julio’s selection, he did a twisty high five fist bump handshake thingy with Larry while shouting, "This book is lit. Wait 'til you read it."
In honor of summer reading we’re offering a copy of Well Read, Then Dead to one lucky commenter. Let us know if you read more books or fewer books when summer comes around. ReplyDeleteIt all depends what is going on during the summer. Sometimes I can get around 2 books read all summer. Other times I can get around 40 read in a summer. Cheyenne Frontier Days comes up the last full week in July so there is a lot of preparation in the family to get ready for tourists and family that comes to stay so I lose out on reading during July a lot of times. :(

I am disabled, so cannot drive to go anywhere (unless someone decides to collect me)--which gives me a lot of reading time when I shut off the computer at the end of my work day. I have been reading about 2-3 mystery books a week. I love to start a series with book one and read them all in order. I am currently starting my last Anne George --Southern Sisters Mystery-now. Researching my next series--which is how I came to this page. :) ♥

It's the same for me now. When my children were at home we'd visit the pool once a week and I got extra reading in.

I'm reading about the same amount, especially since the temps are in the 100's. I just finished Kate Carlisle's Once Upon a Spine. Before that it was Nancy Atherton's new Aunt Dimity book, Aunt Dimity and the Widow's Curse. Prior to that I read Jenn McKinlay's About a Dog. I have told myself that I need to read more nonfiction, so the plan is that I will alternate between fiction and nonfiction. Summer or winter, spring or fall, I probably read about the same zz perhaps a bit .ore in the fall. I take spells of reading -- May be reading 2 at once, and several one right after another. Then it may be weeks before I read another book. I always have a book or two handy, one usually in my purse, in case the mood strikes. :)
