Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer has passed and the summer items in my business Devereaux’s Dime Store and Gift Baskets are finally selling. It was a rainy and cold spring in Shadow Bend, Missouri and I thought I was going to be stuck with a gazillion flip-flops and pool toys so it was relief when the weather warmed up.
Of course, now that it’s summer, we in retail have to think of the next season so I’ve been looking through fall merchandise catalogues. It’s hard to get in the mood for pumpkins and scarecrows and Halloween, oh, my, especially when it’s hot as hades in my store.
My AC is on the fritz and I’m waiting for Don, the repair guy to get his butt over here. This will be his fourth visit. When he came and checked it out the first time, he claimed it was just low on coolant, the second, he said there was a leak, this time he thinks it’s a cracked coil, so now we’re waiting for the part.
Recently, Shadow Bend has had more than its fair share of murders, and if good old Donnie doesn’t get me some cool air, he just might be the next victim.
