Whew! It's kinda steamy out there. Okay, well, actually it isn't. Right now in Tallulah Falls, we're seeing highs in the mid-sixties. But I'm guessing it might be sweltering where you're located. For instance, Redmond in Central Oregon saw 96 degrees today. Boise, ID and Salt Lake City, UT topped a hundred degrees.
But I'm not here to give you a weather report. I'm here to make you think about December with a little less dread.
If you're a stitcher, then you already know that you need to get your patterns and materials months in advance to get started on handmade items you're making as gifts for family and friends. Here at the Seven-Year Stitch, we have a Christmas in July celebration on the third Saturday of the month. It's a good way to remind stitchers that December will be here before they know it.
It's also a good way to remind non-stitchers that it's never too late to get some shopping out of the way. When I find something I think someone on my list will love, I go ahead and get it and put it in my hall closet. That way, I'm not tapped out financially when the holidays roll around, and I don't feel that last-minute pressure to dive into the shopping madness. Although I'll admit, sometimes I do dive into the shopping madness taking advantage of deals and bargains. But I don't have to.
What about you? Do you shop months in advance? Or do you get swept up in shopping at the last possible minute?

The cover alone makes this upcoming hot and humid day seem better! I kind of shop as I go along, sometimes I find a 'perfect' thing early on!
ReplyDeleteI shop throughout the year, it's easier on the purse strings that way. When I'm out and about and find a good deal I think is there anybody in my life who would like this? 95% of the things I buy I find on sale. I only buy something if I know the person that I am picking it out for will like it. I try not to purchase things if I'm not sure how the person receiving it will feel about it. I pick out birthday gifts the same way. I have several gift drawers that I put the items in and keep a tab of who gets what so that I don't over buy on gifts for them and under buy on someone else. I'm a bargain hunter but only for items that I know will be cherished or enjoyed.

Like you, if I see something I know someone in my family or one of my friends would love, I go ahead and get it and hopefully remember where I've stored it before Christmas! ReplyDeleteI don't actively shop for Christmas. It's not a holiday that I celebrate, and neither does my husband. We do, however, like to buy each other presents, and will do so throughout the year - as we find things we like. ��

I love that you mentioned Central Oregon here. Hehehe...I'm a native Oregon girl. :) I do a little of both when it comes to Christmas shopping. I'll do some now but I can usually get at least half of my list on black Friday. It's a tradition to go shopping with my mom at the crack of dawn. Thanks for the chance to win too.

ReplyDeleteIt all depends on what kinds of sales there are throughout the year. If I see something in the summer that I know someone will love, I'll get it.
