First I have to tell you that I am lucky enough to live in the bustling French Quarter of New Orleans, and I own the Memory Mine Scrapbooking shop on Governor Nicholls Street. Please stop by anytime you are in town.
New Orleans is a fabulous place to live and work. The atmosphere is always crackling with the vitality of a town filled with fun and exciting things to do. One of my favorite events is the Winter Market. I always consider it to be the official start of the holiday season. Restaurateurs and other venders set up along the banks of the mighty Mississippi and offer samples of food, liquor and other wares putting everyone in a festive mood.
You won’t believe what happened at the last Winter Market. My BFF Ava Gruiex and I were strolling along, tasting wine and having a grand time when we wound up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Quigg Brevard, a restaurant owner I briefly dated years ago, was screaming and threatening a man I’d never seen before. I later found out his name was Martin Lash. He was a restaurant reviewer who had written a terrible review about Quigg’s pride and joy, Mumbo Gumbo.
A few minutes later, while Ava and I were looking for treasure at a clothing booth featuring risqué lingerie, the very same Martin Lash came stumbling around the boutique tent with a huge kitchen fork stuck in his neck. He dropped right at our feet, dead as a stone.
Horrible as that was, the worst was yet to come—for me at least. The last thing I needed was to have my long time beau Detective Edgar Babcock find me at the scene. But there I was when he pulled up. Worse still, within a few minutes, he discovered that Quigg Brevard was there and could easily be the main suspect in Martin Lash's murder. Let’s just say, Babcock isn’t always as cool as he pretends to be when it comes to my being anywhere near Quigg or anywhere near one of Babcock's murder cases for that matter.

When I was very young I created a beautiful scrapbook which won a prize. This was during the 1950's when a scrapbook was just a very plain, large book filled with paper pages that I would glue and paste photos, articles and artwork into. I worked on this particular one and enjoyed the activity. Since then I have not bothered until now when I located one from that era and started to work on for my grandsons. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyScrapbooking interests me greatly since it is meaningful and special. When I had time I used to make a family album filled with beautiful old photos, and memorabilia which I treasure. I tried scrapbooking, but I was never good at it. I had a hard time cutting paper straight, even with a paper cutter. I now leave the scrapbooking to my sister, she's much better at it than i am. Still looking forward to reading "Crepe Factor".

I like scrapbooking. I was introduced to it in 2005 by a retired school teacher who opened a scrapbooking store here in our town. We had some great scrapbooking get-togethers there for five years. In 2010 she closed the store so she & her husband could travel. :( I loved taking a blank page to page displaying my memories! I think the scrapbooks I've done are a great legacy for my daughters and grandchildren. One of my daughters continues to scrapbook so I've given her many of my papers, tools, etc. Now that I'm retired I'm indulging in surface embroidery while watching British mysteries when I'm not reading cozy mysteries! We used to live about an hour from Charleston which really adds to my enjoyment of Laura Childs' tea shop mysteries.

ReplyA good friend of mine gave my daughter an Irish theme scrapbook as a graduation gift. We traveled to Ireland the following summer. We found so many wonderful souvineres to put in the scrapbook. It is beautiful and filled with wonderful memories.

Instead of scrapbooking I worked on my kids baby books just like i was scrapbooking so that before I moved to Iowa and they were in their 20's I gave them a huge scrapbook of their entire life.I included every dr visit to every game they had to all of their friends. I knew the disease RSD that I have was getting worse and I wouldn;t have use of my rt hand and my other is terribly deformed but I wanted them to remember all the times we had! [email protected] p.s. every grandchild that is born i always give to the mom a baby book that they can do extra scrapbooking with a note how i did it and always had time even though at one time i worked 3 jobs i did it late at night.

ReplyI did when I was in high school back in the 60's. But not later. Though 7 yrs ago I gave a friends daughter a horse themed scrapbook with a $15 Amazon gc I have thought about getting back into doing it. But. I have a hard time even reading & baking.
