Unfortunately, I can’t think of anyone else who would kill that bloodsucking leech, either.
I’d do anything to protect my baby brother. Anything. But his timing couldn’t have been worse. This weekend is the annual Cannon Beach Sandcastle Festival, and thousands upon thousands of people are visiting the city. I should be playing realtor, networking with all of those tourists and trying to sell some of the dozen or so vacation rentals I have listed. I should be planning the 5K fun run that I volunteered to manage this weekend. Heck, I should be hanging out with my baby brother and helping him enjoy his first vacation home in the past three years. Instead, I’m here pacing the hallway, wondering what the police are doing to him.
They don’t waterboard murder suspects, do they?
The worst part of all of this is that Michael was finally moving on with his life. He moved from Cannon Beach to Seattle, opened his pet supply store, and was starting to settle down with Kate Davidson. I honestly thought they would end up spending the rest of their lives together. So did Michael. Everything he spent the last three years building is now crumbling around him.
Michael adores Kate. Lying to her was an obvious mistake, but he’s worth a second chance. Gabriella was like a deer tick. The only way to get her out of Michael’s skin was to chop off her head.
Oh gosh. Don’t tell the police I said that.
Wait! I think that’s Kate’s car pulling into my driveway. I understand she’s solved a murder or two in the past. Do you think she can help Michael? Given everything she just found out about him, will she even want to?
