September is for Kitties

I'm Deputy Donut. I'm a cat. My human servant, Emily Westhill, named her donut and coffee shop after me, so she usually shortens my name to Dep.

Names. Who cares?

I like September. Warm sun still comes in windows, but the air outside can be crisp and tangy. Leaves drift down from trees. That can be very exciting. I know that they're leaves, not real prey, but chasing and catching them is excellent practice.

Emily and my friend Tom, who is often one of my servants at Deputy Donut, have their own form of excitement. They're
fastening dowels into a sheet of plywood and painting it what Emily says is a pretty color, and they're going to hang donuts and crullers on it for a wedding reception. I can't quite fathom what's so exciting about all of that, but maybe to them, it's excellent practice. For what, I can't tell you.

I would be happy if they merely let some of those donuts and crullers dry and harden, and then let me bat them around on the floors. They never do that.

The cranberry harvest is about to begin in northern Wisconsin. Emily takes me lots of places, but I hope she doesn't take me to the cranberry harvest. Too much water!

When Emily takes me places, like to and from work, I wear a harness and a leash. They keep me safe, she says, but I'm still not going anywhere near a flooded cranberry bog, thank you very much.

    Staying away from flooded cranberry bogs is a good idea, Dep. As for favorite autumn activity, I enjoy reading outside when it gets cooler. mbradeen [at] yahoo [dot] com

    I love looking at the new fall plants in the garden shops, walking through the fallen leaves, drinking cider and baking! Of course I also love reading, while cuddled in a blanket and drinking a hot beverage. I have always wanted to visit a cranberry bog. Maybe I should put it on my bucket list!

    I like the change in food and drink that comes with September. I start making more chili, stews and soups in my instant pot. In my crock pot I have hot cocoas, hot apple cider and warm punches. I save my oven for baking bread and treats. I like to cuddle up with my dog, (who is so very kitty friendly for awhile she thought she was a kitten), and read books. Sometimes we sit at the window and look out at the snow capped mountains of Alaska and daydream about the book we are reading. We take walks in our hoodies because the air holds a chill. When we return home, a delightful smell awaits promising warm delights for our tummies. Care to join us Dep? I make delicious pet treats, fish stew and clam chowder. As the guest of honor, the choice is yours. Oh and no need to worry about cranberry bogs here. Bring a book, we will provide the treats.

    It is so hot here that autumn brings weather that is usually not as humid or hot. Cool breezes let you actually hang out in the yard. I love to read in this weather or even watch my children play soccer. Even walking at the farm market! All of these are fun and much more comfortable in fall’ dubecara (at) gmail (dot) com.

    As the temperature gets cooler (instead of the triple digit heat we had this summer) I like to walk our three rescued furbabies to the dog park here in San Angelo, Texas. I also don't mind cutting the grass as there is usually a cool breeze in the morning. We will do a lot of the remodeling we have planned with cooler weather.

      I saw a dog park once. Gave me goosebumps, but even with my fur all puffed up, I wasn't quite as big as some of those dogs. Almost, but I wouldn't want to go any closer than I did that one time! Signed, Dep.

    I enjoy the fall since it is the best season and weather. Bright blue skies, sunshine and warmth which is ideal for walks in the foothills with my dog. Roasting veggies with salmon and enjoying reading outside in the backyard. elliotbencan(at)hotmail(dot)com
