Hi, there. Let me be the first to welcome you to Normal, Kentucky. I’m Mayor Courtney Mackenzie.
I’ve been Mayor for three years. Since I’ve taken office, we’ve seen an increase in tourists to the Daniel Boone National Park, which is where Normal is located. I’ve also had the honor in being in the Battle at Wildcat reenactment that’s put on by the Park Historical Society.
I know your visiting during Christmas, but you should really come back in the spring and watch the reenactment, I’ll guarantee you’re going to love it.
Right now, I’d love to tell you a few places to visit while you’re here.
As you can see, our downtown buildings are all old homes that have been rehabbed into quaint shops. Normal was originally a coal town where pioneers would travel to different areas of the state, build a downtown and live there until the mines ran out.
Fortunately for us, Normal has survived, making visiting Normal a very desirable area.

ReplyDeleteWhere would I go first? Well, I guess I’d have to go to the Happy Trails Campground to check in first. Finding a place to call home while in town would have to be first on my list. Next I’d to fortify myself for some honest shopping so I’d go to the The Cookie Crumble Bakery to try out some delicious pastries. On to checking out some shops stopping by Tough Nickel Thrift & General Store and A Step In Time Consignment Store while walking through town. By now I’d need a good strong cup of coffee so it’s off to The Trails Coffee Shop. After grabbing some lunch at the local Normal IGA local grocery store fast food section and grabbing some supplies for our campfire supper, I’d head over to the Normal Library and ask Librarian Abby Fawn which books she would suggests. Have to have a great book to read while sitting around the campfire tonight. Heading out of the library, I would spot Deter’s Feed-N-Seed. Hubby loves to garden so figure I’d stop in and see if they have his favorite type of tomato seeds or the bulk corn like we love to feed the deer that come to our yard. Then walking past Jazzercise Classes I might spot Queenie, the owner, outside changing her sign promoting her sale. We would speak a bit before I walked on. I’m sure she would tell me about Milkery Dairy Farm when she mentioned that staying health meant going to the source as much as you can. Knowing how hubby loves his milk, I want to go by on the way to the campground. Nothing like fresh milk to satisfy my thirsty guy. On the way, I’d pass Normal Baptist Church making a mental note so I’d remember how to get there come Sunday morning. The Laundry Club sits close by so I’d see it too which would be nice to see since I hate to go home from a trip with load of dirty laundry. Will be stopping by later in the week to get things all washed up. Last stop of the day would be Grassel’s Gas Station to fill up from the trip to Normal. While gassing up, I’s spy the Diet Pepsi display. Now if hubby gets fresh milk then I deserve my favorite beverage as well. Back at the campground, exhausted from a full day of exploring Normal, hubby and I would roast our wieners over an open campfire and settle down for a quiet evening of reading while just enjoying being with each other.

The Tough Nickel Thrift and General Store would provide me with everything that I would need. I pine for the old school stores and miss Woolworth's badly. Then I would visit the Trails Coffee Shop for a hot tea and treat. After that delightful repast I would head to the Normal Library since reading is my entertainment and books are my best friends. ReplyDeleteThis town is so captivating and wonderful that I would enjoy life there. Especially visiting The Cookie Crumble Bakery where I could sit and relax and catch up with friends and sip my chai. Your town is an escape from life and the trials and tribulations which we face daily. I'd probably be heading towards the coffee shop, unable to stop snickering at the town name (that's really tempting fate! *grin*), and have to be taken to the Normal Hospital for a breathing treatment. ROFL. My brother said once that he wanted to visit some of our more colorfully named towns and get pictures by the town name signs! ;)

Since it is relatively late coming into Normal, I obviously will need fuel at Grassel's Gas Station before I head out to the Happy Trails Campground to get my spot and keys. Then I will visit the IGA and The Tough Nickel Thrift & General Store to stock up on need supplies for my stay. Before I head back for some rest I definitely have to stop at the Cookie Crumble Bakery so I have a little snack when I waken!

Then to get coffee at The Trails coffee Shop and to have one of my cookies from The Cookie Crumbles bakery. Now with the caffeine, I'd head to the Tough Nickle to look through the general store for some items that I didn't even know I needed. Then it would time to meet a friend for lunch or go to the IGA to buy things for lunch and dinner at night.
