It's March... everywhere weeds and wildflowers are starting to come up in the part of western New York State I now call home. My big property is bustling with work being done... excavations, foundations, many many 'ations'.
It's been a quiet year or so in one sense, but really really busy here at Wynter Castle and Wynter Woods in another. No murders for... heck, quite a while! Like, a year and a half... that's a good thing. (Have I jinxed it by saying that? Hope not.)
But that doesn't mean I haven't been super busy! My lovely 200 year old Wynter Castle, home of my ancestors, has been transformed, with new gardens, landscaping, and renovations. But the land itself has changed the most. My huge acreage is undergoing a process that will take it from a barren landscape to a community of reclaimed homes, houses that were slated to be torn down in Autumn Vale to make way for the new community center town hall complex.
Best of all, marriage is a wonderful thing. I have the most excellent taste in men. My first husband, the late Miguel Paradiso, was smart, sexy, and talented. And I have to say... Virgil Grace, once sheriff of Autumn Vale and now a private investigator with his old buddy, former cop Dewayne Lester and my current and last husband, is amazing: smart, sexy (VERY sexy) and talented. He goes along with all my wild schemes, loves me through the worry and fear of it all, and has built, with me, an amazing Craftsman home on my property, a retreat for the two of us.
With my friends from my old life - Pish and sweet Shilo (who is now married herself, and with a baby daughter, my goddaughter Autumn) - who have joined me here, and all my new Autumn Vale friends, Virgil, Gogi, Lizzie, Doc English, Hannah and all the rest, my heart is full.
And so I ask, as spring arrives... what makes you happy? Family and friends, of course, but what else?

When I lived in the Midwest, it was always watching the world come to life again with leaves and flowers. Cactus flowers are lovely in the SW desert, but I so miss the lilacs and lilies!

I love the end of the cold weather and the beginning of warmer days, signalling the flowers to bloom and the grass to begin growing again.
