So, this is spring in Alexandria Bay, NY. Still bits of ice floating in the river, the grass trying hard to turn green, and assorted flowers sprouting towards the sun. I think I like it. But best of all, we’re only weeks, okay several weeks, until Blye Castle opens for business again.
The castle is on Blye Island in the Thousand Islands, and it’s home to the secondary location of Bayside Books. It also blossoms during the tourist season, and this is my first time at managing it. I’m so looking forward to seeing it. When I arrived in the Bay over a month ago, I had to be content subbing for my Aunt Edie in the main store, while she recovered from a knee replacement. That was a good thing as I knew nothing about retail. It’s been a real learning experience, and a lot of fun, but the castle holds an allure, as I’m sure you can well imagine.
I’ve looked through all the castle brochures but I’m still not totally certain what I’ll find. Sort of mysterious, right?
I also move into my new digs in a couple of weeks. I’ve been staying with my aunt but I’ve rented a houseboat – to live on – and I’m planning for the move when it’s relocated back into the water. Not that I haven’t enjoyed living with Aunt Edie, and I’m glad to have been a help around the house, but I’ve been on my own for a long time now and I need the quiet space.
