Hello, Samantha Washington here from the Mystery Bookshop Mystery Series by V. M. Burns. This global pandemic has caused a lot of challenges. Even in North Harbor, Michigan we’ve faced disruption and have had to make a number of adjustments to ensure our community stays safe. Yet, despite all of the challenges, my bookstore, Market Street Mysteries, has weathered the storm. Bookstores weren’t deemed “essential” so most of the Big Box bookstores were closed. However, I’m happy to say that cozy mystery readers disagree and have continued to buy and read books to help them through these unprecedented times. While I’ve had to close the store, I am thrilled that I’ve still been able to continue to keep readers entertained while they shelter in place, thanks to my nephews, Christopher and Zaq.
Christopher and Zaq are twenty-years old and students at Jesus and Mary University (JAMU) in nearby River Bend, Indiana and they often help me out in the bookstore on weekends and during their breaks. Zaq is the more technologically savvy of the twins. With all of the classes at JAMU canceled, the twins have been at loose ends. So, I hired Zaq to make some much needed enhancements to my website. He’s managed to keep his mind sharp and earn extra money, and I’m pleased to say that my website now rival’s that of some of the biggest online booksellers in the world. Zaq’s twin brother, Christopher, hasn’t been idle either. He’s used his marketing genius to promote not only the store, but my assistant Dawson Alexander’s baked goods. Local patrons love the BUY 2 BOOKS, GET A COOKIE promo he instituted. He’s even been able to enlist the aid of Dawson and some of his friends from Michigan Southwest University’s football team, the MISU Tigers, to help deliver food for my boyfriend, Frank Patterson’s restaurant. The fact that I live upstairs from the bookstore has been a blessing or I would never have been able to keep my business going without violating the ever-important Shelter in Place requirement.
