Mel's Texas BBQ Mop Sauce
1/4 cup butter
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup minced onion
3 stalks of celery, chopped
1 cup of water
1 beef bouillion cube
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup cider vinegar
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons spicy mustard
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon paprika
2 teaspoons chili power
In a medium sauce pan melt the butter and then add the garlic, onion, and chopped celery. Saute them until they are lightly browned. Next add the water and the bouillion and stir until the cube is dissolved.
Add the rest of the ingredients and stir. Let simmer for 15 minutes. This makes about 3 cups of sauce. The sauce can be used on beef brisket, pulled pork, or whatever you like. We mostly use it as a mop sauce which means we brush on the surface of the meat like a basting sauce during cooking. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!This recipe (along with a bunch of others including some of my pet treat recipes) is featured in the Cozy Food Cookbook along with 200+ recipes from 128 cozy mystery writers.
I hope you take some time this weekend to cookout and spend some time with friends. And I hope you'll check out some of the other fun recipes in the Cozy Food Cookbook for your next get-together.
