The thing is, I’m plum out of ideas. A card is just so … human. I’d dig up some flowers for her, but the last time I did that, she didn’t seem all that happy. I shopped in the trash yesterday (every self-respecting canine knows that’s where the good stuff is kept) but Kate seemed a little cranky about that, too. I thought I’d save one of my treats for her, but I can’t seem to stop myself from eating them

I think you should do something nice for her. You can give her a day of peace and quiet and do whatever she wants.

I suspect that you recommendation is one that Kate would REALLY appreciate!
I think Kate would love anything you get her, but that doesn't mean you have to buy anything. She would treasure you just showing her you love her. Maybe that means taking her for a walk so she gets good exercise to keep her heart healthy (and to lose the pounds she might gain from the candy others may give her). Or it could be laying close to her to keep her warm if the breeze is cool or the a/c gives her a chill. It might even be barking if you are doing it to protect her from herself - like not watching where she's walking and about to trip. In other words, just be yourself, look up in her eyes with your great big puppy eyes and let her know you love her. After all, love is the greatest gift we can give anyone.

Well, you can always pre-wash her dishes. That's what my dogs did for me. I only have cats now-they said don't fight and try to be nice to your brothers and sisters. When I told them you were an only dog they suggested letting your mom clip your toes nails without fussing, not vomiting on the carpet, and helping her read and write her next book! (Calumet, Licorice, Mariusz, Annabella, and Mystic)

Bella, offer to help plant her vegetable garden. You can dig the holes and she can plant the plants. You might even find buried treasure! Just make sure you dig where she wants the garden; she might get grumpy otherwise. (My girls are helping me plant my veggie garden as well!)
