Our Ears Are Burning!

by Dep, the cat from the Deputy Donut Mysteries by Ginger Bolton

Every character associated with Deputy Donut is feeling important these days.

Deputy Donut is a coffee and donut shop in Fallingbrook, Wisconsin. The shop caters to police officers and other first responders as well as people who live in Fallingbrook and people who come from all over the place for some of those sweet things and hot beverages that humans like.

Deputy Donut is named after me!

But that's not the only reason we're feeling important. Our author, Ginger Bolton, was in Bethesda, Maryland, at the Malice Domestic Conference--and she was telling mystery readers about us. She specifically mentioned me. She told people that if I could talk, mysteries would be solved sooner.

And do you know what? That could be true, sort of, but a better way to state it would be: If Emily, the human who looks after me, could understand what I'm thinking, mysteries might be solved sooner.

She also said that "all" I could do was arch my back, puff up my tail, and hiss if I thought I didn't like someone.

Well! All I can do? I don't think that was fair. I can do lots and lots of things.

To make matters worse,  Ginger told people not to trust my judgment because I like herring whether it's red or not.

I'm not sure that makes sense. I do like all kinds of fish, but why mention color? Taste and texture are important. Only humans worry about the color of food. They eat all sorts of strange things, like fruits and vegetables. Bread. Candy.

Donuts. Coffee.

Okay, humans are strange, but they were talking about me. Me! They said I'm cute! So I'm kind of puffed up, but not the way my fur stands on end when I see someone who makes me suspicious.

Here are two more pictures. I don't go near the donuts that Emily gives away and sells, so that part isn't realistic, but see? I'm a pretty kitty.

  21. The answer is Cats! I love the premise of your series. What a great idea! I went to the Kensington Mini Cozy Convention in Cambridge MA recently and was able to hear the panel you were on. Sadly, I wasn't able to buy any books as my hubby is out of work right now. Sorry I wasn't able to meet you that day. Hopefully another time.
